A significant renovation and extension is proposed for an existing post-war red brick house in Preston.

The rear of the existing house is to be demolished and replaced by a new contemporary addition, which responds to the slope of the property by stepping up and opening out onto the rear yard. The simple rectangular volume has been elevated to take advantage of the northerly aspect, and high level clerestory windows have been introduced to encourage abundant light and cross-flow ventilation in summer.

A lower, mid-section area creates a bridge between old and new areas, which have been distinguished by introducing a high quality Krause brick to accentuate the new additions. Charred timber cladding, black colorbond steel and aluminium framing creates an elegant bond between the simple materials palette. 

Energy efficiency levels of the house will achieve a 7-star rating by including solar panels, double glazing with an emphasis on cross-flow ventilation, plus significant insulation upgrades throughout.
