Compound House, Moonee Ponds, Australia, 2019

DESIGN / BRIEF

This project involved alterations and additions to an existing single-storey weatherboard house in the inner suburbs.

New additions were proposed at the rear, to connect the existing house to the detached garage, where a studio space was also proposed above. The extension takes advantage of a northerly aspect for open plan living and entertaining areas. Proposed living quarters were arranged around a central courtyard with pool, which helps reflect light into living areas and creates a direct connection between indoor and outdoor areas.

A series of angled skillion roofs help maximise the ingress of natural sunlight and marry contemporary new areas with old. Natural, earthy materials were selected for their robustness and to complement/ enhance the existing house.
