CARLTON RENOVATION. Melbourne, Australia, 2016-

slide show gallery

The existing house is a quaint two-tone brick single-front cottage in a leafy inner-city street. New additions are proposed to replaced rear lean-to structures, along with the inclusion of new rear parking spaces with carport.

The existing house is within a heritage overlay and surrounded by predominantly low-rise brick cottages and townhouses. The existing site conditions are quite restrictive but north-facing. The proposed additions are designed to maximise northern light to all new living areas and kitchen, which open-out into a large area at the rear of the house.

A proposed new carport drapes over an existing brick structure in the back yard, to incorporate any "loose ends" under one roof. The carport roof incorporates polcarbonate sheeting to allow light through; its form emulates old drive-through service stations from the passed. Existing mature fig and fruit trees will be retained as part of the proposed landscaping.

Dark colorbond cladding and recycled red-bricks (re-used from demolition works), will enforce sustainabile principles and create a contemporary yet sympathetic addition to the period home.
