North Fitzroy Terrace, Melbourne, Australia, 2015-
This project involved proposed alterations and additions to an existing 19th century townhouse in Fitzroy North.
The house lies within a strong inner-city heritage context, but is in a state of dis-repair. A new two-storey addition was proposed to replace the rear section of the house and includes a proposed green roof terrace and courtyard garden to provide a pleasant outlook for occupants.
Proposed Rhinezinc cladding contrasts existing brickwork, yet is complementary and prevalent in the neighbourhood. Some primary colours were introduced to accentuate privacy screens, whose composition is reminiscent of Piet Mondrian’s artworks.
