North Carlton Apartment, Melbourne, Australia, 2003
This project involved the fit-out of a new apartment on the first floor of an existing terrace house. Proposoed new works included the demolition of internal walls, the relocation of the existing bathroom and the addition of a new kitchen.
A long strip of skylights slices through the kitchen and beyond the entry corridor wall, to create a point of interest that enables ample natural light (a problem often faced in many Victorian terrace houses.
A neutral colour scheme was selected for walls and ceilings to amplify the space, which is punctuated with splashes of colour on cabinetry units and the glass splashback. A custom built timber sliding door with fibreglass panel inserts complements the original restored floor boards and adds warmth to the space, while also allowing natural light to filter through from beyond.
