Dolomiti E-bike Shops, Melbourne, Australia, 2014

This project involved the refurbishment of an existing retail space in Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe. The retail strip contains three split-level shopfronts of about 200m2 in size, that were formerly occupied by ‘Ivanhoe Cycles’. The properties also contain a single-storey house that was dedicated to administration office use.

The shops were previously left empty in a bad state of dis-repair for a few years, which meant significant work was done to bring the spaces to a presentable state. All areas were re-lined with new ceilings, floor and wall finishes, significant work was also done to make the shops compliant with current building regulations.

The previous design concept for Dolomiti’s electric bike store in Carlton was maintained wherever possible; the colour scheme was co-ordinated with existing furniture display units and corporate logo colours. A large carpet runner was proposed to unify the individual spaces and takes reference from green bike paths painted on roadways. The exterior of the complex was kept subtle, in contrast to brighter and more colourful interiors, which become enhanced when lit at night.

The project was completed in approximately two months from schematic design to hand-over.
