North Carlton Office. Melbourne, Australia, 2003

This project involved the new fit-out of an existing office space, on the ground floor of an existing two-storey terrace house in Carlton.

Some internal walls and the original suspended ceiling were demolished, to increase natural light and maximise the floor area that was reduced by the addition of the new staircase at the front.

The walls were sealed with raw hard plaster to provide some textured finish, while the dark floor tiles and ceiling create a horizontal emphasis to the otherwise long and narrow vertical space. The ‘Novalux’ suspended lighting provides a sculptural gesture, while storage for office equipment was created under the staircase.
